NOT THEIR BEST - AND I WAS THERE!

"As the wife of co-founder/drummer Louis McCall (who was murdered in 1997 in a home invasion robbery), I have to agree with reviewers who don't care much for this album. It is definitely not one of their best efforts. The band was in flux at the time, which seriously impacted their creativity. But the remaining members are not responsible for the release of such less-than-stellar works - we don't even know WHAT is coming out most of the time! There are definitely other albums in the band's discography which deserve to be remastered and reissued in CD format. "Spirit of Love" (1980) is supposed to be re-released sometime this year. It definitely has some memorable songs like "Got To Be Enough", "Early Morning Sunshine", and "Honey Wild" (which was recently sampled on Lil Wayne's album). There's also "Candy" (1979) which contains "Candy", "Chase Me", and "Let Me Put Love On Your Mind". Please be patient - your continued support is definitely appreciated!"

"There were only maybe two good songs off of this Con Funk Shun album. They need to put the rest of their albums from the 80's on disc. "Candy, Loveshine, Burnin' Fever and Touch" would be the idea recordings to be released on cd. This one is ok, but come on guys. Quit playing your customers and come with the real material."

"Of all the Con Funk Shun albims not available on CD, why release this one. "Baby I'm Hooked" is the only track on this album woth listening to. The albums that should be released on CD are Loveshine, Touch, Candy, and To The Max. These are great Albums. Fever is an also ran with 1 song of any note."

"I am a major fan of Con Funk Shun. As can be said with EWF Con Funk Shun were a band who had it all-great pop,R&B AND funk chops,fine production and some great vocals! I would be happy to see Mercury reissue ALL of their albums on CD-they are soooo worth it. 'Fever' is actually the album of theirs I am most curious about. Two of my favorite tunes from the CFS best ofs are from this album-"Lovin' Fever" and "Baby I'm Hooked (Right Into Your Love)" but knowing that Felton Pilate and company can deliver high quality full lengh albums with the best of 'em I had a feeling this would not disappoint and it doesn't. Take "Baby I'm Hooked" for example-the melodic transitions on this song are truly amazing and the tempo is about THE PERFECT "smooth groove";not a slow ballad but just perfect for an easy dance or just to sing to. Another great thing about this album is the fact the band embraces the latest technology of the day in a very classy way. I read that Felton Pilate's belief is to be a good musician you should learn to play an instrument.So while the lightly Jacksons sounding funk of "Can You Feel The Groove Tonight",the synthesized new wave pulse of "Indiscreet Sweet" and "Thinking About You Baby",a pop-funk gem that would actually not be out of place on an early hip-hop album all sound contemporary and organic at the same time-chalk that up to great musical and songwriting talent. "Don Let Your Love Grow Cold":I have NO IDEA why this song wasn't an enormous pop and R&B hit,even in the Top 10-it's got a nice uptempo beat to it,it's as perfectly constructed as "Baby I'm Hooked" and the style is about as California mellow as they come. "Lovin' Fever" of course has all the same qualities;it's definately in keeping with the Thriller
era of music but is also stripped down in the Minneapolis tradtion;I really enjoy the compelling echo plexing of the vocals on this song too.
"Hard Lovin" is probably the song that emphasizes hard core electro style funk on this album.Of course my favorite part of this song is the popping,upfront bass line. "If I'm Your Lover" delivers another great helping of that great California pop-funk sound and is a great a way to conclude the album as any. Taking this all together,despite the heights Con Funk Shun had reached beforehand 'Fever' is a perfectly good album for them. It's certainly one of the best of that period (something I cannot say for the electro overkill on EWF's Electric Universe from the same time period) and I cannot understand for the life of me a lot of these bad reviews I am hearing for this recording. Maybe opinions will change as people listen to it more.And I am sure they will."
