Comm.Venus is Bright Eyes
12/14/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The key to Commander Venus lies in the powerful passion of Conor Obersts¹ lyrics, which belie his age and sound as though they were penned by a road-weary rock veteran, not a junior in high school. Listening to "We'll Always Have Paris" or "The Role of the Hero in Antiquity" will leave you deeply touched and mildly curious about the source of his insight. The emotions within The Uneventful Vacation span from apathy and heartbreak to bittersweet memories and full-bore rage. Commander Venus explores the period in all our lives when the future looked ever-brighter just as the looming reality of life threatened to crash the party. The Uneventful Vacation, recorded at Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey (recording home of Shudder to Think and Chavez albums) and produced by Ed Douglas, explores genuine emotions that everyone can relate to.For Fans Of: Cursive, Hot Water Music, Mineral, Drive Like Jehu."

"This is truly Conor Oberst in his early days. He holds such strong emotion along with lyrics similar to Bright Eyes.

Listen to his songs from "Do You Feel At Home?" It's Conor before his voice changed. Its quite nice and inspiring. :)
