Synopsis

Album Description
"Real Music is arguably the most consistent new age music label in North America in terms of the quality of their recordings over the years. One of their specialties is releasing excellent compilations and Comfort Music 1 is no exception. The album features perennial label favorites, such as the duo 2002 (who contribute the dreamy piano-led piece "Suddenly Yours" and the guitar-keyboard track, "Morning of Light") and pianist Kevin Kern. Guitarists are represented by two tracks from Johannes Linstead (the gently swaying "Don Juan" and a sexy duet with violin on "Ilusion") and one from Govi (a little bit of nuevo flameco pyrotechnics called "Torero"). I was glad to see a cut from one of my favorites, keyboard player Bernward Koch (the gentle and romantic "Little Moritz") as well as one from oboe artist Russel Walder (the stately yet serene neo-classical "This Moment Now"). Fleshing out the album are two selections from multi-instrumentalist Gandalf, and one each from flutist Nicholas Gunn, contemporary instrumentalists Back to Earth, and a duet by Tim Wheater and David Lard. As an introduction to the label or if you are just looking for an enjoyable compilation that features both peaceful and ethereal new age music this is an excellent choice." Bill Binkelman, Wind and Wire, April 2004

CD Reviews

Comfort Music, Vol. 1

(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the finest albums I have bought in years. Every piece is a true delight. It is such a rarity to find an album that is great all the way through. Beautiful melodies. Definately worth adding to a New Age collection or a collection of beautiful music."

"There isn't a bad track on this CD. Although it's relaxing, it's definitely not soporific elevator music. Enjoy!"

""Comfort Music 1" is another beautiful compilation of soothing music from Real Music. Guitars are featured prominently on most of the tracks, but there are also flutes, keyboards, voices, and other instruments. Many of the tracks come from previously-released albums from Real Music, but there are a few "guest" artists as well. Terence Yallop at Real is a "real" master at assembling compilations that work on a variety of levels, creating a blissful mood without getting sugary. Artists include Back to Earth (the only artists on "Comfort Music 2"), Gandalf, Nicholas Gunn, 2002, Govi, Russel Walder, Bernward Koch, Johannes Linstead, and Kevin Kern, and Tim Wheater. Warm and optimistic, the CD is gently uplifting and provides a nice massage for the mind. A very nice addition to any collection."
