Important American Musical Event

"I first heard "Wings" when it came out in 1970 while I was studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. It influenced me strongly, as it broadened the concept of what large pop/jazz ensemble writing could accomplish. I was greatly impressed with Bill Medley's contribution.

This is an important addition to American music, and the influence of the Vietnam war on the piece has current implications. In a perfect world it would be picked up by a major and re-released with full distribution."
Should be re-issued!

"Tauted as the first "pop-symphony" in 1970. It's not a soundtrack but a concept piece. This was a big undertaking in those days, recorded on different continents and with multi-vocalists. The orchestra and big-band pop sound is unique and stunning. The lyrics by Paul Williams are haunting and relevant today. My only disappointment was the quiet ending, but that left me with wanting more. If Colombier is a big movie score composer now, this is where he got his start. Vocalists: Bill Medley, Lani Hall, Vernetta Royster (haunting), Paul Williams, Herb Alpert all contribute to the great songs."
Colombier is a monster!!

"Wings is the title for a special "suite-style" composition composed by Michel Colombier with lyrics by Paul Williams. The music covers every style known to man-from classical to jazz. The material played by a very large symphonic orchestra is very, very demanding-yet performed beautifully

Bill Medley has a great voice for the two compositions he sings on.Paul Williams has a very interesting voice & style, and as the lyricist for the songs-his singing fits the mood. The musical world lost a great musician when Colombier passed away a few years ago.I wish this CD was longer!!

Get it--you will enjoy it."
