CD Reviews

Mystical New Orleans Blues-A must have for your collection!
07/08/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is real swamp blues that will take you into another dimension. Coco exudes spanish moss and moonlit bayou fires. Fantastic strings, horns and a chorus that won't quit, blended with chirping frogs and a howlin wolf. Saturday Night Before Christmas is destined to be a holiday classic. Check him out at the NO Jazz Fest if you are ready for an experience that will move you down to your dna."
Essential to my New Orleans collection

"On Spiritland, Coco makes a gumbo of just about every Louisiana musical style I've heard, yet delivers his own recognizable brand of New Orleans funk. This CD is fun, meditative and thoughtful....a real treat among the typical New Orleans musical lineup. My favorite track is St. John's Bayou which evokes all the imagery, magic and mystique of New Orleans. A chirping nighttime choir mixed with a teasing calypso, the wayward sax, flirting trumpet coaxed along by Coco's gutteral growl casts a sensual trance as thick as a bayou fog. My hair curls from the humidity. The Spiritland track casts a similar spell accompanied by a sweet fiddle and a brief chorus, a nice touch. Every track on this CD is good listenin'."

"When ever I play this in my car all my passengers want a copy, it speaks to all sorts of people. I have this album and another CD: a rough copy of some new stuff when I caught him live in New Orleans a year ago. He was hoping to release it formally soon - so keep an eye out or check out his web site for it. In the mean time have some fun and listen to music that will fill your belly, put a smile on your face and yet make your heart cry. You will fall in love with Coco."
