CD Reviews

DISAPPOINTED & DISGUSTED!!!

"This album / CD is a RIPOFF!!! These are not the original

versions of the songs but re-recordings done many decades later.

I was unaware of this when I ordered this CD and I am quite

upset about it. I feel that the web site's failure to advise

that that these are not the original versions constitutes

either negligence or deception. The very use of the word

"Anthology" in this case is deceptive, though it comes from

the CD producers, not from the web site, of course.

I STRONGLY recommend that people looking for the real thing

stay away from this CD.

Sorry; This Won't Do

"I have a couple of records (45s) from way back when and at least one cassette compilation of the Clovers' hits (though it lacks some tunes). I also remember the superiority of their "Devil Or Angel" and "Love Potion #9" over the cover versions, but these are NOT the original recordings which we enjoyed way back when. These are re-records and may have some historical value for collectors but not much. They may be original Clovers but they come off here like one of those various groups licensed to be "The Drifters" or "The Coasters", etc. making public appearances without the familiar voices. I can't recommend this item; I CAN in this case recommend Bobby Vee or the Searchers with their cover versions of two of the hits."
Not the real deal, but...

"This is a Clovers group led by original member Harold Lucas, the remnants of which are still touring. Even though they're not the original group, they are considered the legitimate "Clovers". Most of this stuff was recorded in the late 1980's by a group consisting of Lucas, Johnny Mason, John Bowie, and Steve Charles. If you're new to the Clovers, skip this one and get one of the collections of the Atlantic material."
