CD Reviews

I hope there's more out there like this.

"Often, I'll be at a record store browsing through CD's, and I'll come across one that I already have. And every now and then, it's an album that is so well-crafted, with so much staying-power, that even though I already own it, I briefly consider buying a second copy. And this album is one of them. Now, I don't know how to write a good music review, using all those fancy words, but "The Gate Beautiful" is an album that transcends all of that fluff. I always love hearing new Christian artists who refuse to mimic other secular bands or artists, and instead go out and create a whole new sound. Again, this is one of them. If you like dance, trance, electronica, and trip-hop, then get this. It doesn't fit any one of those categories, because it's too big for any of them, but those types of music are good indicators as to who will like this CD. Incidently, this a great CD to listen to on your best pair of headphones in a quiet setting. I hope we see more from Cloud2Ground soon."
Good variety, nice sound

"I was introduced to Cloud2Ground by a sampler album (one of the Eclectica series) and when I was looking to update my Christian dance collection, I decided--based upon that sample track (not from this LP)--to get this Cloud2Ground CD.
I got into dance music at the height of the disco era back in the 1970s, and stayed with it through the techno era of the early 1990s. Today, the stuff I hear on cable radio dance stations is enjoyable music, but I just don't see how anyone can dance to it. That's how I feel about this album--this definitely has a club sound to it, music that would fit with anything I hear when listening to dance music, but most of it is not something I can dance to.
I don't know exactly the difference of all the styles of dance music these days--trance, drum'n'bass, jungle, electronica--but I could put such a label onto various tracks here. It has sounds like that plus touches of hiphop, a song that sounds like old Depeche Mode/New Order stuff on the verse but a soaring pop song on the chorus, a song with the wooden-flute-like sound of Enigma, and an almost high-energy track, "Boomerang." This 11-minute song is my favorite on the album--beautiful female vocals, lush electronics, and for me the most danceable beat.
The album ranges from in-your-face intense beats to quiet, peaceful sounds (sometimes in the same song!). But one adjective I could use to describe the overall sound of the album is "pretty." A pleasant album for either active or laidback listening."
Sweet underground techno/trance.

"I was so blown away by this performance by Cloud2Ground. I'd heard some great stuff about them from friends, but never really believed them until I heard this album for myself. There actually is a half-decent Christian trance group out there! And from what I hear from my "sources", Cloud2Ground is only one of many."
