CD Reviews

BEST SINGER-SONGWRITER OF THE PAST DECADES

"I grew up with Clifford T. Ward's music beginning with his 'Home Thoughts' album in 1973 to his latest release this year titled 'The Ways Of Love'. This CD, "Gaye & Other Stories" took selections from his 'Home Thoughts", "Mantlepieces" & "Escalator" album. That is why most of the songs here are great. However, his other works are also magnificent. I personally like his 1984 album "Both Of Us" a lot. Just grab any of his CDs, you won't be disappointed. The bad news was that he had contracted multiple sclerosis and has not been able to write nor sing for 6 or 7 years now. What a pity. All his releases in recent years were mainly remixed from un-published or un-finished demos or remixes of old songs."
The light that burns half as long...

"As you may know, Clifford T. Ward left us in 2001 after a 20 year battle with MS. Sad though this was, we are lucky to have been left with so many haunting songs. While the entire album is brilliant and a real showcase for his genius, tracks such as Gaye, Nightingale and Homethoughts From Abroad really undersore the fact that this man was literally second to none. This is as good as it gets, and his music holds its own against against any classics you could name.I always remember the line from Blade Runner where Eldon Tyrell, the designer of the Nexus-6 Replicants tells the android combat leader, "The light that burns half as long burns twice as brightly..." Well you burned so very brightly, Clifford. Thank you for everything."
Goodnight Clifford..
