"A quartet of lovely ladies, serving up their renditions of classics from the swing era -- all done in sweetly scatted versions! Most numbers begin with these great wordless vocal passages that establish the tunes before the main lyrics come in -- setting the scene like the horns in a larger group, but sounding even more wonderful through the sweet harmonies of the group. The format's a great one -- quite unusual for the time, and very different than the approach used by other female vocal combos of the 50s. And thanks to some hip arrangements from Bob Bain and Bud Dant, even the older tunes on the record crackle with a new sense of life.
