CD Reviews

Uncompromising Brilliance: Majestic Post-No Wave
Raymond E. Andre | San José, CA United States | 08/03/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"One can easily understand why Circle X is one of the only influences that early SWANS would even cite. That alone should ensure that Circle X would be remembered. However, all one need do is to listen to the track "Tell My Horse", to realize that the Doors' "Horse Latitudes" is probably its closest relative, yet it sounds laughably anemic in comparison. This entire CD is the optimal balance of Power, Control and Danger: Cold, Intellectual, yet plenty of Balls, and enough raw muscle to fill a Slaughter House. Please release the other 7"'s: i.e. "Compression of the Species", "Crooky Crane", etc. from such great labels as American Gothic! The only fault of this CD is that the 4 7" releases from the early '90's are not present. Thank you Matador for releasing something we'll never truly deserve."
