CD Reviews

Skip it and just buy Darkness Rising

(3 out of 5 stars)

"This is an interesting (and not necessarily in a good way) little single released to promote Delusions of Grandeur, the 2008 release from melodic metal band Circle II Circle. The European release (on AFM) is titled Every Last Thing, while the US version (from Locomotive) is called So Many Reasons. The cover artwork and track listings are identical, so I'm at a loss to explain the different titles (which will no doubt lead to some fans buying this disc twice).

The single features just four tracks. "So Many Reasons" and "Every Last Thing" can be found on the Delusions of Grandeur album. There is also a radio edit of "Every Last Thing" which is pretty useless. The only new song that's exclusive to this release is "Darkness Rising", a dark, heavy rocker that totally fits the mood of Delusions of Grandeur. The disc also features a live video clip of the song "Evermore" from Burden of Truth that was filmed at a ProgPower USA fest.

As much as I love Circle II Circle, I hate these overpriced singles (this isn't their first) that fans have to buy in order to hear that one new song. If this were a reasonably priced single (see: Another Stranger Me) I wouldn't complain, but asking full album price for essentially one new song is just not cool. Fortunately you can download (legally) "Darkness Rising" for just under a buck, so unless you're an obsessive collector or really want to see that video clip, you can skip the Every Last Thing/So Many Reasons single."
