Synopsis

Album Description
In her new release, Christine Kane opens herself up to show the many different sides of her artistry, her personality and her spirit. An organic and often raw mix of tight acoustic textures and rhythms sets down a dynamic backdrop for Christine?s earthy and elegant voice, which manages to hold within its range both vulnerability and strength at the same time ? much like the whole CD itself. Christine?s reverence is undeniable in several cuts on the CD. ?The Way Clouds Do? describes a gritty bus ride through highway traffic while looking out on the world through the eyes of a mystic seeking change. ?Times Three? reads like a biblical text and moves dramatically with the pulsing guitar work of Larry Campbell. And the powerful ?The One Thing I Know? poetically and effortlessly travels back and forth between the profound and the personal. Christine?s irreverence comes out in the more humorous notes in the album. The women in her songs live by the railroad tracks, drive beat up Volkswagens and don?t go to church. The laugh-out-loud cut on the CD, ?No Such Thing as Girls Like That,? starts with a comical look at an MTV video and ends with a description of an aging Barbie with sagging breasts and osteoporosis. Christine?s masterful treatment of such a well-worn subject secures her place among the finest humorist songwriters of her generation. ?Rain & Mud & Wild & Green? was recorded in New York City and produced by Christine and Ben Wisch, making this Christine?s first CD recorded away from her home of Asheville, NC. One of the best producer/engineers of the acoustic genre, Ben Wisch has a diverse list of credits ranging from Marc Cohn to Kathy Mattea.

CD Reviews

Absolutely beautiful music
Debbie Schilling | Indiana | 03/03/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Christine Kane is an amazing talent. She has a hearbreakingly beautiful voice, writes a wide range of wonderful songs, and is an engaging, energetic performer. Her latest CD is a warm collection of ballads, upbeat rockers and one hysterically funny song (which is a great souvenir from her humorous live performances). My personal favorite on the CD is "Everything Green," from which the title of the CD was derived, an uptempo song about reconnecting with nature. Richard Shindell fans will enjoy his backing vocals on "She Don't Like Roses." Finally, fans of Christine's excellect guitar work will find plenty to enjoy in this collection of songs.Buy this CD, collect them all, then buy them for your friends. You'll be glad you did."
Bright Collection

"Christine Kane has put together a bright collection of songs. They won't change your life but they will make you feel better about it. Lyrically she is top notch and the songs have a timeless feel. The sound ranks as equal to anything the Indigo Girls have done with a laid back James Taylor groove. This CD has sounded good in several different environments. Don't be surprised if you see some of her music done by big names and winning awards in the future. Her voice has a little Carole King in it. Buy it! You will like it!"
Good Pick Me Up Music Without Being Perky

"Having lived in Asheville and gone to see Christine play at the Grey Eagle whenever possible, I pull out this CD whenever I need to feel GOOD. Her voice and music are amazing, and she has intelligent and mostly uplifting lyrics."
