CD Reviews

Crucial and Spiritually Medicinal
Peter Mung | Chicago, IL USA | 02/14/2000

"This group seems to have been somewhat shunned by the reggae community, despite being around for ten years and producing a quality output of highly creative reggae music. AND they praise Jah through His Son Jesus Christ. The message that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior is loud, clear and seriously HEAVY. Tansoback, the founder of the band, is in fine form with several tunes that include toasting and singing- he handles both with true cultural authenticity. Message aside- this is PREMIUM, top-notch reggae material with some songs sure to be classics. "Emancipation Proclamation" featuring guest vocals by Geneman along with Tansoback, has the feel of a classic Jamaican pressing of a 7" back in the 70's- scratches and all! "Love of My Life" is a beautiful, spiritually conscious love song that Tansoback wrote for his wife Vanessa- also a member of Christafari. "Why You A Go Look" addresses the Rastafarian practice of worshipping Emperor Hailee Selassie. In an excerpt (included on album) of an interview with the Emperor himself, he says that people shouldn't worship him- he's just a man. Rather, he himself followed Jesus Christ- yet today people still worship Selassie. "My Stereo", "Render Your Heart" and "Talawa" are among the highlights. Quality material, well-crafted, creative songs and outstanding musicianship and production make this a must own CD for all reggae fans. The gospel is proclaimed here with BIG enthusiasm, vigor and authority! Kevin Kelleher shines on drums with a solid performance and very musical playing- something often lacking these days because of all the sequencing and programming. Excellent liner notes too. Nuff respect to Christafari and Soulfire Crew! Praise the name of Christ Jesus!"

"I met my wife "Nikki" a couple of years ago. She introduced me to Christafari thru Soulfire. I loved it. I was really sad thinking that with the breakup "this is it..no more Christafari". When I heard about WSP I had to check it out. I was very much concerned about how Tansoback would sound with the missing voices. I was so impressed with WSP. The message, the sound, all of it was great! I guess the best way I can put it is like this: When in church I sometimes see people raise their hands up when we are singing. I have never felt compelled to "raise my hands up while in song". And to go a step more I really thought they were just trying to get a little attention. I sound like a really sweet Christian don't I?..lol. Anyway when I listen to WSP I feel like raising my hands up to the Lord in song and praise. Tansoback, thank you for the eye opener! ...and thanks to everyone in Christafari...you did good guys! -Charley- Dallas,TX"
