Synopsis

Album Description
Anthology, Volume 1 includes 20 career-spanning songs and proves to be an addition to the music we've grown to love from Chris LeDoux. As a bonus, Capitol Records Nashville has included one previously unreleased track, "Airborne Cowboy."LeDoux, who lost his battle with cancer of the bile duct on March 9, 2005, at the age of 56, had a career spanning more than three decades, recording 37 albums. He began in the early '70s with such hits as "Cowboy Like Me" and "Too Tough to Die," and gained national attention when a fellow country singer, Garth Brooks, mentioned LeDoux in his song "Much Too Young to Feel This Damn Old." LeDoux joined Garth Brooks at his label, Capitol Records Nashville, and went on to sell more than six million records worldwide. On July 16, 2005, LeDoux was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame as the first honoree to be inducted under two categories: Bareback and Notables (for his contributions to the sport through his music). LeDoux, an icon to many rodeo and music fans, was able to expose the sport he loved to the masses through not only his own accomplishments in rodeo, but through his songs about rodeo--and, more importantly, in the way he truly lived the cowboy lifestyle.

CD Reviews

Great songs, but just more repackaging
James L. Bumbalo | 11/24/2005
(1 out of 5 stars)

"These are great songs known and loved by all longtime Chris LeDoux fans (and I've been a fan for about 25 years), but surely Capitol could have come up with a better tribute than yet another repackaging of old Chris songs (true, there's one new song). After all the years Chris recorded, surely there are at least 10 unreleased songs somewhere. Capitol could have used the new song on this CD and the two previously unreleased songs on the first box set and then found seven more. Maybe Capitol could even have persuaded Garth Brooks to include his tribute song to Chris.

Since 1994, Capitol has released NINE compilations of Chris' previously released material (two box sets, live, best of, greatest hits, re-recordings, and two other collections). How many different ways can Capitol re-release Chris songs and rip off his fans?

"Anthology" is a poor tribute to my favorite singer of all time."

"This is what I like to call Country music. Now I really enjoy all country music, but this music reminds me of my rodeo days. To see Chris die at such a young age just puzzles me, but knowing that he accomplished so much in his music I think it's fair to say he lived a really great life. This music is wonderful and I love to take it with me camping!"

"This is a must have for all Chris Ledoux fans

I have over twenty of his albums and this is right up with the best of them. I have loved Chris work ever since I came across a copy of Gold Buckle Dreams in our local music store 15 years ago the man may be gone but he will live on through his music forever."
