CD Reviews

GREAT album, CONFUSING packaging

"If the songs listed are accurate, this is a reissue of the 1963 CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHIPMUNKS VOL.2, the 2nd classic holiday album from Ross Bagadasarian (Sr.). Like the 1962 album, EVERY song here's terrific-- "Jingle Bell Rock" (one of those rare instances when a cover outshines the original to my ears), "The Twelve Days Of Christmas" (making fun of a truly irritating song!), "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas" (kids can really relate to heart-warming stuff like this-- at least, I did...!). As with most Chipmunks albums from the 60's, there's at least one original-- in this case "Hang Up Your Stocking", pure early-60's rock & roll in style. And something that surprised one friend of mine a few years back was hearing "The Night Before Christmas"-- done in jazz-"scat" style! The one thing that BAFFLES me is, WHY this CD reissue has the WRONG cover on it? The picture is clearly from the 1st album, not the 2nd-- except it has the words "Vol.2" jammed over it. Looking over all the Chipmunks albums currently available at Amazon, I have to shake my head at the questionable packaging (& repackaging) being done with some of these classic albums. (I mean, for that matter, one might ask WHY the '62 & '63 Christmas albums weren't simply reissued on ONE disc as a "twofer"??)"
10 milking jumplers...9 stocking sticklers.....

"Nothing makes me smile more than the twisted "Twelve Days of Christmas" from the Chipmunk Christmas album. I was never aware that this album was a "volume." My sister has the first one, I have the second one. I'm 19 and, amongst all my other Christmas albums, I still listen to this one every year during the Christmas season. And I'm proud to say I still know "The Twelve Days of Christmas" word for word, with all the screw ups in between. Everyone should get a little taste of the Chipmunks at some point in their lives!"
