CD Reviews

Good music and wild experimental sounds
CS Man | Airdrie, Alberta | 02/15/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"On vinyl, this was released as a double album. Side 1 had songs suitable for AM airplay. Lonesome Mary was a hit in native Canada, Eat is a grungy blues-rock number, Rosie is one of the most beautiful ballads I have ever heard in my life, while Ridin' and Ride-Out are two songs in one, with Ridin' being the vocal track and Ride-Out the instrumental. Side 2 had one short song, the ballad Always, and a 13 minute opus called Changing Reels. Changing Reels is a word play, it starts out as a country sounding tune, or reel, and the fact that it was composed in sections and put together would reference the changing of tape reels. Sides 3 and 4 were entirely improvised in the studio and while it suggests the "musique concrete" of Edgard Varese, there are some remarkably cohesive segments. If you're not into wierd, spacey stuff, the first half of the album is worth the price alone. The rest of it is a bonus and hey, it was the 1970s after all!"
Chilliwack was cool to my spaced out friends, better than BS

"Black Sabbath ? Frank Zappa ? Psychadelic Compilations ? NO Chilliwack was the album my herb smoking friends liked the best. The 2nd disc was full of the greatest experimental instrument and sounds ever. They would get carried away to places not found before with other artists. This album was a early Pink Floyd "Ummagumma" contemporary."
