CD Reviews

Cher's Club Anthem for the lonely.
K. Eisenberger | Defiance, Ohio United States | 08/28/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the first US single release from "Living Proof" and topped the Billboard Club Play chart and also went to number one on the Dance Maxi Sales chart for 12 weeks. The mixes are by Almighty, Illicit and Thunderpuss and are quite good. The Almighty Mixes come in extended and radio mixes. The full mix(8:46) is the best mix here and similar to their excellent mix for "Believe" which showcase the vocals I think better than any other mixers who've done remixes for Cher. Just absolutely brilliant from second 1 to the finish. The Illicit mixes also come in Extended and radio mixes. The radio mix is best while the full mix (8:09) sort of buries the vocals under the beats. Not my favorite mix and almost like their work for India.Arie and Stevie Nicks. The Thunderpuss Mixes come in radio and extened form for the club mixes. The Club mix(8:43) is okay but it is their Sunrise Mix(8:25) that truly rocks. This is one of the best mixes that the Barry Harris and Chris Cox have done in awhile. Excellent cd single full of remixes."
CD Single release lets great song hit the Hot 100
Jeff Pearlman | Lakeland, FL USA | 04/01/2002

"This is a great song. I wish more radio stations would play it. The sales of this CD, which features dance remixes and edits of what was already a thumpin' album track, have finally allowed "Song For The Lonely" to make the Hot 100. Pop radio continues to disappoint and nauseate: enough people have responded to this song and the "Living Proof" album to merit taking a couple of spins away from J.Lo. But most stations have decided that because Cher isn't under 30 her song doesn't "sound right" for them. (Has anyone told the kids Kylie had hits 13 years ago? She is like too old to even go to COLLEGE! Ewww! Don't play that song any more EITHER!!!)"
These are the remixes?.

"This is a great club song, never really heard it on the radio, only heard once on my mom's soft rock station at work. Sad, `cause it really deserves more attention. The maxi single contains 4 mixes and 3 edits:Track 01: Song for the Lonely (Almighty Mix) (8:46)- This mix, as you can tell by the title, it's remixed by the Almighty crew. This was my favorite remix out all 4 mixes. The mix, like other Almighty mixes, have strong kicks throughout the song. The thing I most like about this mix is that the transition to the bridge was done very well. The bass was also something really cool. Very danceable.Track 02: Song for the Lonely (Illicit Vocal Mix) (8:09)- The beginning is boring, but in clubs and mix sets, no one really listens to the beginning. This sounds very factory like. The mix has some turntable scratches, and is kinda disco like too. Worth listening, but definitely not the best mix.Track 03: Song for the Lonely (Thunderpuss Club Mix) (8:43)- Good, but not great like other Thunderpuss remixes. The mix starts off with congas and other drums and fades in with Cher's vocals. The bass (it might be a synth) was pretty nice. This mix was... not strong as their other remixes, but acceptable....Track 04: Song for the Lonely (Thunderpuss Sunrise Mix) (8:25)- This is another remix of "Song for the Lonely" by the Thunderpuss duo. A strong tribal beginning, but I think the Thunderpuss Club Mix was better. In this mix, there are some vocoder delays, but not a long. The piano was a bad touch to the song and I think Thunderpuss could've done way better.Track 05: Song for the Lonely (Almighty Radio Edit) (3:34)- A shorten version of the Almighty Mix, good if you don't like long intros and outros. (see track 01)Track 06: Song for the Lonely (Illicit Radio) (3:51)- A edit of Illicit's Vocal Mix, for some reason, it sounds better than the club version, maybe `cause Illicit's intro is boring... (see track 02)Track 07: Song for the Lonely (Thunderpuss Club Mix Edit)- A edit of Thunderpuss' Club Mix. No intro and outro as always with edits. (see track 03)
If you never really listened to Cher before, you MUST listen to this, it's her masterpiece, of my time anyways!"
