Album Description
THE NAME
The name Charlus was derived from a character out of a certain novel, drawn by a certain writer who spent his share behind a wall, the kind that exists both in the mind and at the asylum. Can you guess who it is? The name was taken to draw the line that exists at the fringes, and illustrate those souls who exist on the furthest edge, like lonely birds of prey high up on a cliff ward precipice. Throughout literature there is no one, who better serves up that paltry meal than our namesake, The Baron Von Charlus. No more hints, that¹s all you get. The name Charlus also implies a state of mind, the infamous character it was taken from, was notorious for the social impression he made and the impact of his personality on friends and foes, made a lasting mark. Although he was an introvert, he wore his power like a loud, brilliant orange flower pinned to a smart topcoat. He was complicated and the image he showed upon first meeting a new and desirable person often conflicted with the man he would reveal to you in private rooms. The more the layers are peeled off, the more diverse and interesting the picture becomes-I aspire to have the music of Charlus mean the same. THE SONGS
The songs were created by Daniel; who worked with various great musicians, mostly people who are not very big fans of the music found on the airwaves today. People who would rather live with their talents unrecognized, if that must be the case, than play a role that the industry deems necessary in order to sell records. With the effulgence of perfect blow-up dolls, lip-synching their way to the top of the charts or even worse, those who cut and paste other peoples synthetic inventions, then call themselves innovative, there has never been a greater need than right now, for honest, earthy songwriters, who are called only by the voice of truth. We need them to come along and save the sad, who are locked in their bedrooms attempting to save their soul. Today is very much like the time in recent history when truly awful bands, embarrassingly trite and silly, dominated the airwaves and gave us, supplied us, with only unbelievable nonsense. Right now, people, especially the young and impressionable are drowning in the media that is pumped into them and most don¹t even know how badly in need of air they are. Stuffed already to the choking limit, they are being force-fed on nihilistic music television, whether its with electronic beats, generated by a machine, or hypocritical song writers who don¹t live any of the life they so righteously sing about in their acoustic ballads, all your getting is an impossible image that¹s sickening our culture. We have criminals and models to look up to, to take refuge in, when the world is not treating us fairly. That, to me, is frightening. Where are the underlying themes of morality and principle? I assure you it is nowhere to be found in modern radio. If you found us, most likely, you are ready to hear the original voice of a man and not a calculated product created by a machine. I don¹t claim I can save the world of music, but I will certainly try in my own way. My only motivation is to write the words of the universal, and sing them with the conviction, only attained by someone who believes in faith and has the faith to believe, that it is not wrong to want more, to expect more, from not only life, but from Art itself. I recognize as an Artist, I hold great power and I understand the responsibility that goes with it. It does not inflate me in anyway. My intentions speak volumes, because it is not wealth, it is not to feed a monstrous ego, that inspires me to pursue a public podium, it is only to put the scales back in balance, by fighting the good fight. Godspeed. --Daniel
