Synopsis

Album Description
This recording features the vocal styling of Cathy Chemi (her name is pronounced as in "chemi"stry). This is Cathy?s first solo recording and her first since the 1970 live sessions with trumpet and big band leader Harry James. Backed by pianist Steve Rudolph and bassist Paul Langosch (bassist for Tony Bennett), Cathy sings thirteen great standards by composers Gershwin, Mancini, Mercer, Berlin and more. As Les Tomkins of Crescendo Magazine (British Publ. - Sept. ?70) said in a review/interview entitled Cathy?s Chemistry, "Cathy successfully combines her naturally powerful voice with a distinctive style of interpreting good songs. She achieves emotional intensity that is free of the over-theatrical affection which mars the work of some big voiced singers. If there is musical justice, she will have a brilliant future ahead of her." Cathy?s voice has maintained all of its qualities through the years and her artistic maturity enables her to deliver songs with conviction and integrity. This recording is an outgrowth of live engagements she has done with pianist Steve Rudolph over the past 20 years, especially the last ten years of monthly appearances at the Hilton Harrisburg.
