Cathexis - 'Exempli Gratia' (Cleopatra) Mike Reed | USA | 11/14/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "When I first got a copy of this CD,I thought what is UP with the band's name?Apparently,'Cathexis' was the name of an episode of the TV series Star Trek:Voyager.'Exempli Gratia' is a bit similar to the Surface 10 disc that came out a year earlier.For Cathexis is Surface 10's main man Dean DeBenedictis's other project.Only on this effort he had some help from bassist Richard Finch and keyboardist Harry Wayne.I tend to be drawn to the CD's two lengthiest cuts which run at least ten minutes each "Shores Of Topa" and "Manatee".Also wanted to mention that I thought "Erase Friday" was happening as well.'Exempli...' is just good cutting-edge electronic dance music.Would be a great disc to play at a rave party.About as good as the self-titled Surface 10(see my review)effort,just maybe more dance oriented.Gorgeous cover."
