CD Reviews

A Note From The Producer
Cary E. Mansfield | Studio City, CA USA | 09/21/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Casino Royale is an exuberant ten-piece go-go band that has gained a devoted following since their formation in 1999. The group took their name from the James Bond film Casino Royale, which introduced the song "The Look of Love" on its soundtrack, and emphasized the Bacharach songbook. Casino Royale has received high praise for their genial tongue-in-cheek attitude, high energy, and expertise in performing Bacharach's polyphonic compositions and other '60s hits that have all the detail and power of the originals. They're serious about the music, but the fun they have in performing it is infectious. Back To Back Bacharach features interpretations of 16 Bacharach classics including "The Look of Love," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Walk On By" and "Wishin' & Hopin'.""
+1/2 -- The Bacharach songbook revisited
hyperbolium | Earth, USA | 10/17/2005
(3 out of 5 stars)

"This 10-piece ensemble faithfully replicates the swinging-60s styles of Mendes, Alpert and most notably on this collection, Burt Bacharach. This 17-track set, originally issued in 1999, pulls together a wide variety of tunes from the Bacharach songbook, ranging from the girl-group "Baby, It's You" to swinger-pop standards like "The Look of Love" and "What's New Pussycat" to the country crossover hit "(The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance" and the bizarre-o movie theme, "The Blob." Bacharach's catalog is held together by a combination of sophistication and youthful joie de vive, and though there's plenty of the freewheeling '60s sparkle here, the revivalist wink (characteristic of many neo-lounge recordings) makes this more about the era than of it. The iconic nature of these songs' hit renditions overshadows these recreations, often leaving one longing for the originals. Still, bringing these tunes together under a single baton creates a fun party soundtrack and a swingin' good time. 3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. [©2005 hyperbolium dot com]"
Perfect CD for a car ride

"I don't sing too much, but I find myself singing to this CD everytime it's in my car. The first half of the disc is a bit slow, but the second half is great!"
