CD Reviews

Classic Bossa Nova, Beautifully Peformed and produced
Terence King | New York, NY United States | 07/12/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This recording is one of two that Carol Saboya made for Japanese JVC's Aosis label (the other is entitled Nova Bossa). Unfortunately, neither of them has been released in the U.S. That's a shame, because they're terrific recordings. Recorded in Brazil with top-flight Brazilian musicians, most notably Luiz Avellar who plays piano and did most of the arrangements, it's a lavishly-produced affair with full orchestra. Saboya's singing is gorgeous, with intonation, phrasing, and feeling that put her at the top of the list of singers in this genre. The performances, arrangements, and production are faultless throughout. This is a recording that I've listened to over and over and still haven't got tired of. Sublime."
Carol Saboya is the bossa queen!
Claire & Monte Montgomery | Los Angeles, CA | 06/30/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Lush production, sensual vocals, top-notch players -- what's not to like? I'd nearly worn her later album (Nova Bossa) down to a nubbin and decided to get this earlier one as well, as a companion piece.

Carol Saboya deserves much wider attention than she gets in her native Brazil and in Japan, which has also discovered her. If you dig Sergio Mendes, Elis Regina, Eliane Elias, Kleber Jorge, etc., you can't go wrong with this disc."
Brazilian Jazz with Bossa Nova hues by one of the Best Brazi
Papetti | Mexico City | 01/09/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD was beautifully planned and performed by one of the Best female voices from Brazil and the world = Carol Saboya.

The orchestration and arrangements are top notch on compositions by great Brazilian songwriters like (Tom Jobim - Dorival Caymmi - Roberto Menescal - Djavan - Vinicius de Moraes - Baden Powell - Joao Donato, and some by Carol herself).

And by the musicians in this amazing project, you can tell the caliber of performance here:

- Carol Saboya / Vocals, Compositions

- Ricardo Silveira / Acoustic and Electric Guitars

- Luiz Avellar / Piano, Fender Rhodes, Compositions, Arrangements

- Marcio Montarroyos / Trumpet, Flugelhorns

- Teo Lima / Drums

- Jesse Sadoc / Trumpets, Flugelhorn, Trombone

- Paulo Guimaraes / Flutes

- Jorge Helder / Bass

- Daniela Spielmann / Soprano Saxophone

and many more, including the Rio Strings Chamber Orchestra.

P.S. This is a must if you collect Brazilian Jazz, Bossa Nova, Jazz and if you love beautiful vocals; unfortunately this CD was released in Japan only and no signs of seeing it released anywhere else, but worth every single penny."
