CD Reviews

Good, but too little music

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this one sometime ago. It covers maybe 8 or so songs and several of the medlies are very good. These V-Disk recording were ,ade strictly for military personnel duringt he second world war. Carmen plays wonderfully, but I had wished that this disk had more songs. You can hear Carmen introduce the numbers, along with hsi very young daughter, Dolores. Penthouse Serenade is one of my favorites that he plays as well as Dancing in the dark and other popular standards. I liked it, but I would opt for one of the other cd's offered by Amazon such Carmen Cavellero One, or some of the other imports which they sell. Still, I like it and he is an amazing pianist with great detail given to each note and the fastest hands you will hear!"
What Wonderful Memories

"Carmen Cavallaro was probably the best popular pianist of his time and the songs he recorded on V-Disk for the armed forces were supurb. This title deserves more than 5 stars! What a pleasant surprise to find a song not listed on the insert ("Always") sandwiched between "I Kiss Your Hand, Madame" and "April in Paris." Without a doubt, all the songs on this CD bring back memories of the WW II era and Sundays listening to the radio. One comment on the CD itself.... for some reason, I can play it on only one of my two CD players. Careful cleaning of the disk helped a lot but there were still a few skips. Maybe a tracking adjustment is in order on that player although none of my other disks exhibit the problem. On the alternative (new) player, there were no skips at all."
