Carla's New CD Has Scored Another Home Run
Lawrence Otis Graham | Chappaqua, USA | 04/29/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first heard Carla sing at a black tie soiree on Manhattan's Central Park West about 14 years ago, right after she had graduated from Harvard. Her soulful voice and incredible charisma was not a talent that you'd expect to find in a Harvard MBA grad, but that night, she captured every New Yorker in that crowded room. We all knew that soon her captivating voice would find it's way to a larger audience. And then I got her Christmas Album two years ago, which made me a true Carla Ann Harris fan. But she's topped even that. This is the album that will make this woman a star. I got "Joy is Waiting" only two days ago, and I can say that her "Standing on Holy Ground" is unquestionably the best gospel song and best gospel presentation I've heard from a current day performer. This song is not just great lyrics and music, but its delivery is presented with the kind of integrity that makes you think the performer is talking directly to you. I normally never look to music as a means for emotional therapy, but I recently lost both of my parents and as I listened to the words of the song--all of it a message on how to get through tough times by knowing that God is standing there with you--I honestly realized why a good gospel performer is able to make God's work a little easier. If just for the few minutes that the piece lasts, like me, you will find that even your most discouraging thoughts will get swept away by the inspiring words and music of Carla Ann Harris. It is pure genius."

"I was told about Ms. Harris' new CD by a friend and bought it out of curiosity, more than any other reason. What a discovery! Her luminous voice takes hold of you and won't let go. Her bold rendition of "Bridge over Troubled Water" and "What A Friend" simply mesmerize and take you to another place. This is THE CD of the summer for anybody who loves good, down-home gospel music."

"Imagine, if you will a down day, and you need a pick me up. Put this cd on. I doubt that your spirit will fail to rise upon listening to the first song. No doubt you will be "standing on Holy Ground". Ms. Harris' interpretations of well known songs reflect her her strong belief in God and positive view of life.

These songs will get in your head, and you will be humming them long after the cd is off. They will take to a wonderful place, and leave you there for a good time. As the title says "Joy is Waiting", stop making Joy wait, buy the cd and enjoy."
