Synopsis

Album Description
Subtitled - Latin Boogaloo from the Big Apple. A riotously impure marriage between Latin rythms & black soul, recorded almost exclusively by young, rebellious Puerto Ricans & Cubans in New York from 1966 to 1969. Henry 'Pucho' Brown of Pucho & The Latin Soul Brothers identified the style as 'cha-cha with a backbeat'. Despite selling in massive, unprecedented quantities in it heyday it was subsequently condemned by New York Latin musicians as a vulgar hybrid of Latin music. Raucous, full of humor, extremely danceable & a whole lot of fun, this 2002 compilation highlights some of the genre's greatest tracks from such artists as Joe Bataan, Monguito Santamaria & Johnny Colon.
