From the beautiful violin acrobatics and the complex but steady pulse of the jarana and huapanguera (instruments which are variations on the guitar), to the haunting falsetto of the voice, the listener will experience music which is quite different from the more well known styles of Mexican music."

"The Corason Label from Mexico is very similar to the Folkways Label produced by the Smithsonian Institute. The label specializes in the folk music of Mexico and the Carribean. Since the 1970's the producers at Corason have been travelling the backroads of rural Mexico recording the best traditional music artists.



Los Camperos de Valles are a trio who specializes in the Huapango music of the Huasteca Region of Eastern Mexico. The Trio plays acoustic instruments and sings in the high falsetto on the Son Huasteco. This is traditional Mexican folk music at its very best. Any record produced by the Corason Label is the gold standard by which Mexican and Carribean folk music must be judged. Be sure to check out their "Antologia del Son Mexicano", the single best series recordings ever made of Mexican folk music."
