Swan Song
12/18/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Jason, Jon and Sean are responsible for some of the sweatiest live performances I've ever seen. Hailing from Minnesota, Calvin Krime was adept at hard, fast riffs and clever turns of phrase. While their first album, "Dress for the Future," was more or less a frantic punk rock album, their follow-up, "You're Feeling So Attractive" truly demonstrated their diverse musical range. Perhaps not every song on that second album was successful, but the work as a whole boasts two of the strongest opening numbers I've ever heard, as well as an undeniable sense of playful invention."3 X 3 for 3 1/2," Calvin Krime's final bow, released on the Polyvinyl label after AmRep shut its doors for good, is a wonderful three-song farewell EP for the three musicians who toured and toiled for three-and-a-half years. "Mascara" and "This Sad Horse" are two of Calvin Krime's best songs. The third, "Get Off It," is a meandering, cacophonious drone which perfectly captures the sound of three men going their separate, uncertain ways.I was very sad to see this band call it quits. Chronically unpredictable and willing to risk potential self-indulgence for a chuckle, Calvin Krime constantly made me smile. After the demise of the Krime, front man Sean Tillmann not-so-surprisingly opted to turn his attention to pop music. He can be seen and heard all over the country performing as both Sean Na Na and his Hip-Hop alter-ego, Har Mar Superstar."
