Review of "Vale Callampa" (sorry for my english...)

"The chilean band "Los Tres" (something like The Three), was a rock band from Concepcion, Chile; which became very famous during the 90's in Chile. After release nine fantastic albums (5 original, 2 live-folk recordings, 1 live & final concert, and even and MTV unplugged), and make wonderful music, which includes romantic ballads, a bit of jazz, blues, instrumental pieces, rock and even hard rock songs, they decided to broke up at autumn 2000. It was very sad for fans (for me too!), because they really were a great band: great musicians, beauty melodies, interesting lyrics, etc., leaving a hole in the spectrum of popular music in my country.
When Cafe Tacuba came to Chile to play live their new albums(1996-1998), they make friendship with Los Tres; friendship which lasted for more time than anyone could think.
The story is this: Alvaro Henriquez (ex-vocalist of los Tres) were talkig by phone to Emmanuel Del Real (keyboards and ohter of Cafe Tacuba) some time ago, and Alvaro said: "Hello Emmanuel, how are you?... I'm just recording an album with my new banda (called "Pettinellis")", and Emmanuel answered: "Hello... well, we (Cafe Tacuba) are working in some new material... guess who composed'em"... Alvaro said: "I don't know...who?"...Emmanuel replied: "YOU!"...
Since that on, Cafe Tacuba recorded and released some few weeks ago the EP "Vale Callampa", which included four songs: "Dejate Caer" (let yourself fall), "Olor A Gas" (smell of gas), "Amor Violento" (violent love) and "Tirate" (throw yourself); all being originl songs from Los Tres.
For me, and chilean fans, it's a really honor, that a fantastic mexican band had made a tribute to Los Tres...and, finally, please try to hear this songs, and the original ones...they really are good!"

"They have been called anything from a post-punk mexican new age band to the new standard for wich avant garde groups will be measured, but if you want to judge cafe tacuba by their new ep i think the description that would fit them best would be amazing, from the opening number of "dejate caer" wich takes us on a roller coaster of diffrent rithims and riffs, and a very diffrent version and departure from los tres ( original singers of this song) and as a bonus has a very cool bridge prone to sampling , this takes us to the errie doo woop of "huele a gas" that has some of the most elaborate harmonies and vocalizations of any tacuba cd the third course of this amazing meal " amor violento" gives us an unreal bassline, the raspy voice of a very mature ruben and the return to the sinth-mecha-sound from the early 90's that distinguished this band, and last but not least, we have "Tirate" a straight up balad and son in a very mexican way by it self that gives a taste of what to expect from previous cd's , in all this is a very good introduction to the chilean band los tres, and a great way to rediscover the best exponent of mexican alternative music cafe tacuba"
