"When it comes to hip hop, the west coast is widely known for gangster rap. Artists such as Ice Cube, Xzibit, N.W.A. and Tupac always seem to come to my mind when I think of what defines the west coast rap scene. In recent years I discovered a band of brothers whom have brought to life soulful, conscious, and positive hip hop in Southern California. I highly recommend Burning Star debut album to anyone needing to broaden their lyrical horizons; to those who may need someone to look up to in their quest to express themselves through hip hop; and to those who (like me) have a desire for more than what popular radio can offer. These cats aren't about gimmicks or qwerks but their music can be described as surreal. A true "band" in every sense of the word. Burning Star blends jazz and funk with more eastern sounds. Just imagine listening to world music in a language all can understand. If you enjoy bands like Ozomatli, The Roots, Black Eyed Peas, and even the Mountain Brothers, you should have no problem with making Burning Star the latest addition to your music collection. They have the goal of bringing about a positive message and uplifting those with even the lowest of lowly thoughts. This album is lyrically precise, the music is hauntingly contageous, and the overall message will open the mind's eye. Although I do feel that this is a great album, I have had the opportunity to see Burning Star perform on multiple occasions and the impact of their live shows cannot be captured on a piece of plastic. So, buy the cd first, go to their web site at www.burningstarmusic.com, find out where they are playing next, and go to a show. cd... show... either way, you will not be disappointed."
