Synopsis

Album Description
Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives was an Academy Award winning American actor and acclaimed folk singer and author. Ives always seemed slightly out of place in the 1940s New York folk scene, his pleasant voice and non-preachy manner making the traditional songs for which he was originally known into bona-fide chart hits. His radio show, "The Wayfaring Stranger", popularized song like 'Lavender Blue' (his first hit, a folk song from the 17th century), 'Foggy Foggy Dew' (an English/Irish folk song), 'Blue Tail Fly' (an old Civil War tune) and 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' (an old hobo ditty), and they became part of many people's childhood memories. Amazing anthology of this beloved performer. Beautifully remastered in RevOla-sonic sound by the lovely Norman Blake

CD Reviews

Poor sound quality
Billy Zoom | Orange County, USA | 01/07/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"This CD sounds like it was mastered from old vinyl records rather than the original tapes.

These are the original recordings, but the sound quality is poor.

A classic
Ellie Alice | Northern Virginia | 12/21/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is truly an American classic to which all should be exposed religiously from the age 3 months on til' death. Nothing like it, of course, is being produced today, and I thank God and his bright little humans for the sound technology that has allowed us to preserve it, forever, just as we'll never lose Bach and Mozart, and ancient music, and old children's songs, original Indian muic traditions, Chinese, etc, etc, etc, etc. And thank you dear Burl Ives!"
