"it is sad to think that buddy holly had a very short life. from h his first decca recording in 1956, to his final recordings for burnswick/coral in late 1958, to his home recordings in early 1959, a few weeks before his demise, alongside, ritchie valens, jp. richardson, and the pilot, roger peterson,to head a gig in south dakota, but never made it there, since thier plane crashed into a frozen cornfield. many of the finest talents, frozen forever, but thier music lives forever.
this compliation of holly hits, does not focus on hollys greatest hits, like, that'll be the dat, peggy sue, heart beat, which can found in numberous compliations over the years. what this collection consist of is his love song recordings, demos ,and overdubs. its nice to add to the treasure drove of holly hits, since it fills in the void that holly can take any song, and make it is own, ie, bluebery hill. this is for the fan that wants a another side to an rock n roll great.while some of these songs are little underrated, and are not well recieved on radio, is a diffirent side to holly that shows he was varsatile artist that continued to make great music, untill his tragic passing. this collection is not for the fan who likes his greatest well known sings, since this collection does not contain, those. it consentrates on his rare love song side.while mostly studio masters, it does have a fair share of demos done in his apartment, that were appartly overdubbed into a studio master after his death.some of the overdubs are good, but the unpolished demos are more betterand would lead you to believe, it would have been interesting to see what he could have done t with these tapes, after he added the finshing touches to them.while the overdubs tries to capture the holly essence, some do well, while othersd could have should have not be added, and just the demos added. somethings are better left untouched, but atlas, it gives you a feel for what the overdubs did create.this is not a bad collection, but it sheds new meaning to great music and an artistic rocker who showed his talent was very unquie. a fine talent, a great music writer.and to one attest to when you listen to this collection, holly was a very intertaining artist who range showed in his chosen recordings."
