Buddy Clark Was A Talented Crooner

""The Buddy Clark Collection" features this fine crooner in the Bing Crosby, Russ Columbo, Perry Como tradition. This CD covers Clark's all too brief career from the early 1930s until his tragic death in 1949 at age 36. Clark (born Samuel Goldberg)had a rich baritone and easy singing style, and his fine renditions of tunes like "Linda," "Peg O' My Heart," and "That Old Gang Of Mine" became the definitive versions. A bit of trivia: Clark did the "ghost singing" for various tone-deaf leading men in many 1930s and early 1940s movie musicals. He was just coming into his own when he perished in a plane crash. A superb ballad singer, Clark was one of the all-time great vocalists of American popular song."

"I grew up listening to Buddy Clark on his radio show on CBS, then in 1947-49 he had a super hit with the song "Linda." His voice was dubbed into the movie about vaudevillian Joe Howard in the movie "I Wonder Who's Kissing her Now." He died in a private airplane crash in Los Angeles in 1949. He was a great loss to the music world. His recordings are getting very scarce which is a shame. "Ballerina" was another song he sang which was a hit."
