Contemporary Jazz - not Gospel

"BRYANT PUGH - PEACEFUL PLACE (Paradise Records 51416 1231), 53:35Gospel keyboardist Bryant Pugh opens his album with one of my all-time favorites - Ramsey Lewis' "Wade In The Water" - in a funky contemporary vein with funky guitars and wicked keyboard playing. The next tune "Resurrection" offers some acoustic piano playing definitely from the Ramsey Lewis school of ivory tinkling. Not all arrangements are top notch although and some corny synth backgrounds detract from the overall quality. The funky "Leaning" with vocals and party chants are a welcome change of pace and bring over a religious message. This is not the perfect fusion album but one that is a worthwile alternative to the polished stuff from the top players. If you can overlook some elements and enjoy the heavily Ramsey Lewis influenced funky keyboard playing you will have a rewarding musical experience."

"I purchased this "album" in cassette form several years ago and it has blessed me, my family & friends tremendously. I love jazz and to mix it with gospel is ingenious. My Pastor was playing it in his study one day and I ran to the store to get a copy. The store only had it in the cassette and I have been searching for years for the CD. Thank you Bryant for answering God's call and Amazon.com for having a CD for me to buy."
