CD Reviews

NWOB...AOR?
Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 06/30/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"One of the lighter-edged bands to emerge from the post-NWOBHM British hard rock scene, Bronz played melodic rock similar to 707, Triumph, and Orion the Hunter. There are some similarities to more mainstream AOR acts like Survivor and Asia as well.

1984's Taken by Storm was the band's only real studio album. Despite the melodic AOR elements, it is still very much a hard rock album. It's just that the driving guitars are paired with the prominent use of keyboards. Singer Max Bacon, fresh from a stint with Nightwing, provides a solid vocal performance, sounding clear and distinctive. I really enjoyed the later Nightwing albums, largely due to Bacon's vocals, so this Bronz album is becoming a favorite as well.

Sadly, Bronz didn't last long beyond this album. Bacon would go on to join Steve Howe and Steve Hackett in the relatively successful GTR project, and the rest of the band moved on to other projects as well.

While this album will likely appeal to serious British rock collectors, it is far more likely to please classic AOR/melodic rock fans.

The 2002 Castle reissue of Taken by Storm - the first time the album has been released on CD - features remastered sound and a remixed version of the song "Stranded" as a bonus track."

"Amazing!!!!!!!!
Stupendous!!!!!I have been looking for this since I had it on cassette from way back... If you are familiar with BRONZ you need to pick this up. If not, maybe you are familiar with another similar band GTR... Same singer (Max Bacon) at least on this album. If you like Asia, Autograph, early Genesis, GTR, and Yes, I think you will like this."
