CD Reviews

Just beautiful!
JC Rudy | Chappaqua, NY USA | 11/16/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Jeffrey Evans' creation here is one of the most beautiful, ugly, scary, heart-rending compilation of tunes I have heard in...well, a long time!I have no clue what the man means by it all. But from the agonized screams of loss that begin the album, through to the deafeningly overloaded breaks of his interpretation of Route 66, Mr. Evans leads a harrowing treck through peaks and valleys of rage, love, loss and remembrance of things past that no other artist working today can even come near. The man understands the emotional impact of unclarified noise, combined with minimal, plainspeak poetry and paper-tearing vocal chord delivery that just makes me screamlaughcry! The artists whose material he interprets are truly blessed. Being a fairly wide ranging music listener with tastes ranging from Stravinsky and Mingus through Veloso, Borbetomagus and the Mekons, I have continuously been surprised by Jeffrey Evans, a music historian who has turned me onto writers and sounds I never thought I'd appreciate. The man is an unheralded genius who deserves a wider distribution and audience."
