CD Reviews

Album title can be taken literally!

"Kevin's Noodle House is a collaboration between guitar virtuoso Buckethead, and drummer phenomenon Brian "Brain" Mantia. I am a long time and hardcore fan of both musicians, however I found KNH a less than enjoyable experience from the duo.

The first thing that you should know, Brain does not actually play any live drums on this album. The beats heard on Kevin's Noodle House are programmed by Brain, not played on a drum kit. Buckethead's guitar contributions are remarkably and perhaps intentionally reflected in the album title, "noodling". The bulk of the guitar consists of bizarre sounds courtesy of whammy pedals, Buckethead's trademark kill switch stylings, sprinkled with bits of clean tone guitar throughout. For the most part there are no additional guitar tracks, and there is absolutely no bass guitar on the recording at all. The result is a rather empty sounding collection of electronic drum beats complimented with subtle guitar sounds that clocks in at less than an hour.

This album is certainly one for the open minded, avante garde loving, or possibly even one in search of music to accompany a trip. Personally I found this album to be the least satisfying Buckethead release to date, but at the very least it proves that you never know what the man will do next, and surely it encourages the listener to abandon any expectations they may have for an album. Overall if you're looking for a trippy minimalist recording, Kevin's Noodle House would be the one for you."

"I've only recently started listening to Buckethead so anyone reading this review might want to take it with a grain of salt. I've already purchased about eight buckethesd cds, so i feel like i'm somewhat qualified to write this review. First of all i DO NOT recommend this cd to Buckethead beginners. Start out with "Crime Slunk Scene" or " The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock". Kevin's Noodle House is an appropriate title for the disc because that's all it is. Musicians just noodling around with their instruments making alot of unaccessable noise, no rhyme, no reason. Buckethead is an amazing guitarist but i'm sorry folks this is a weak effort. Spin it in your player on a day you want to feel insane."
