CD Reviews

Good, Underrated Electronic Brazil
bordersj2 | Boston | 12/19/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"For many months I saw this and didn't pick it up. Finally I did and it was very far from a disappointment. BPM, Brazilian Vibe Experience, is a terrific set of music and this feature has original members: André Bourgeois and Geisan Varne involved in fresh new tracks, cool artists in the Brazil nu-bossa/electronica scene and they've given some nice face-lifts to a few of the old classics. What made me really pick this up was seeing Andrea Marquee's name. Her voice is awesome, and the remake of Preciso Perdoar is stunning to me with a slick beat and her sweet voice. The CD started out with Havana Brasil on vocans for Canto De Ossanha, and down the road you have Paulo Lima, Max De Castro, Cris Delano and Boca Cuca Nova even making appearances. This is a very underrated CD. While I wouldn't call it groundbreaking like Suba's Sao Paulo Confessions, it's not nearly as raw as the Caipirissima compilation of 2000. Most tracks are smoothed out, but theree are some energetic tracks with plenty of xinga. I'd recommend this! And if you like this, you may like Brasil 2Mil, Trip Do Brasil vol. 1, Rosalia De Souza's cd and maybe Brazilution."
Very good and rare Brazilian Electronica !!!!!!!!!!

"This is a very good Brazilian Electronica collection of rare cuts very well put together.

First of all I should say that one of the producers is a very knowledgeable man in regards to the "new" Brazilian Electronica scene; he is Andre Bourgeois who a year after this effort, he went unto releasing another great gem of this genre under the title "Alta Fidelidade" -which by the way I highly recommend-.

Anyway, here are several great songs; the highlights are:

1. Canto de Ossanha / This is a Cuban-Brazilian rendition; I'd never heard anything like it and it's very surprising.

2. Lembrar Voce / Is a very beautiful and progressive Electronic cut with Disco shades.

3. E Preciso Perdoar / This is a fantastic version of the super hit Maestro Joao Gilberto popularized years ago; this is a very likeable downtempo version, superbly executed by Andrea Marquee.

7. Ela / This is another fantastic Electronica version by Herbert Azul with guest Marcelo D2 singing what in Brasil is called "Partido Alto"; something like rap but slightly different; anyway, great result......

8. Cancao do Pescador / A great hit by the great Dorival Caymmi in this fast-paced Electronica version which would be just perfect for cruising on a Saturday afternoon by a beach drive like Rio de Janeiro, Acapulco or Miami; superb.

11. Noite / This is a great song sung by one of the best new singers come out of Brasil: Cris Delanno; with so many Disco hues; a beautiful, invigorating, uplifting song played in many upscale discos around the world.

and finally.......

12. Urubu / A great remix by BossaCucaNova.

Check it out if you're into Brazilian Electronica, and want to try a rare colelction with many superb performers........."
