Blistering Hot Funk

"Boxing Gandhis is a retro-funk band formed in 1993 by lead singer and guitarist David Darling. The sextet released its second CD, "Howard," on Atlantic Records in 1996. The album has a classic-funk feel, reminiscent of Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Prince and George Clinton's P-Funk. The group's debut music video won Billboard Magazine's 1995 Video Award for Best Jazz/Adult Contemporary video. Each song is a roller-coaster ride, and even after listening to this CD many, many times, I still get butterflies in the stomach. "Cuzacan" is the quintessential, defining funk song for the 20th century. I've never heard anything past or present even come close, except maybe Prince's "Guitar" or Porno for Pyros' "Cursed Female". Oddly out-of-print, I hope it gets picked up by Rhino or some other reseller so it can reach a new audience. You can still find MP3's of this CD all over the net - some for free. If you can any of find them, be sure to download "Cuzacan", "Roll", "Promised Land", and "Funky Little Princess". You won't be disappointed."

"I love this CD! I saw this band live about four years ago in New mexico - and they are so incredibly awesome! Their music is a blend of so many different styles that your head will be pleasantly suprised. All of their songs have amazing messages that not only make you think but also make you want to get up and shake your groove 'thang.I highly reccommend this CD for anyone who is looking for a funky CD to enjoy over and over and over and over....."
