The first time I heard the Boxcars in concert, was a surprise. We had tickets to see another group, and the Boxcars opened for them. After the Boxcars performed, I was ready to leave…I felt I got my money’s worth and more. All members take turns at lead vocals and their harmonies are good, too. Adam Steffey is one of those rare mandolin players who doesn’t have that ‘high lonesome’ voice. That’s ok, ‘cause he has a wonderful deep rich voice that is a pleasure to hear (singing and talking). Keith Garrett does well with the lead vocals, with that longing, lonesome, bluegrass sound, but at the same time, he has the warm country tone in his voice. Ron Stewart and John Bowman are both excellent fiddle players….as well as banjo players! Most musicians would love to excel at one instrument and they go way beyond that. This CD is a good representation of the Boxcars show, so I would recommend that you get this CD and see them in person if they come within 50 miles of your home. You’ll be glad you did. This is sure to be one of the ‘classic’ bluegrass CDs. PS My husband does not have my passion for Bluegrass music, but he likes this band and even bought this CD after the show.
