Album Description

The Bombay Dub Orchestra is the brainchild of the U.K.-based duo of Garry Hughes (Björk, Sly & Robbie) and Andrew T. Mackay (VAST, Annie Leibovitz). The project is s a unique marriage of chilled electronica with the cinematic lushness of a full 28 piece Indian orchestra . The group's self titled debut release captured the imaginations of consumers and critics around the world and has resulted in rave reviews, track placements on the prestigious Buddha Bar compilation and in films such as Adam Sandler's Don't Mess With the Zohan and remixing gigs for such global acts as Bebel Gilberto, CeU, Banco de Gaia and Gaudi + Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Recorded in London, Mumbai & Chennai, Bombay Dub Orchestra's sophomore release, Three Cities takes the group's uniquely dubbed, South Asian sound to new levels of beauty, once again featuring a full Indian orchestra as well as some of the greatest soloists and vocalists that the Indian sub continent has to offer.

An imaginitive and hypnotic sequel as good as their first

"It moves in moods, effortlessly shifting from a driving bass to a melancholy sitar, violins rising and falling in time with beats that are a masterful fusion of east and west. If you've heard Bombay Dub's first album, you probably found it "sleepy" at first, but slowly got drawn in. 3 Cities has its soft side, but for the most part its more energized, more integrated, and more accessable. This isn't to say it's better than their previous album, just different. Both are among the best albums of the downtempo/chillout/mood-driven genres, and both albums don't have a single weak track in their collection. I'm addicted."

As good as their first CD

"I've never written an online review, but I felt compelled to given how much I love Bombay Dub Orchestra's releases to date.

It seems the word "fusion" can be found just about anywhere these days, so I've been hesitant to apply it to the works of these particular artists. However, after listening to 3 cities I must admit that they've managed to take what seems to be two traditionally beautiful genres of music; Western/European Classical & Indian Classical and "fuse" them into something in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It's unfortunate Amazon doesn't have sample clips to play for uncertain buyers. I suppose they'll have to look elsewhere online.

Either way, I really do believe this cd warrants the five stars I've given it. If you liked their self-titled debut, you'll love this. If you've never heard their music, but like classical music from Europe or India; take my word for it and purchase this cd."
