CD Reviews

Some kinda German Metal...
05/19/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It`s one of the most controversely discussed bands of Germany. Natives of Frankfurt / Main, Germany they had (and have)some problems in the early 80`s with German right wing youths believing the members of the band originated of their scene. Still some of these idiots stick to them like dogdroppings to the heel, but their music nowadays is heared by anarchic punks and " normal" people alike. This album is typical for them, it doesn`t sound very new compared to their other works, still I think it`s great, some knowledge of German is helpful to understand what I mean. But still there are enough people around listening to Rammstein without knowing what they sing about. If you wanna hear some samples, go to www.amazon.de. May be you like it. If yes, BUY `EM!!!"
A good album but don't start here.

"The newest CD from Germany's best-ever band is good, and does have some of their best stuff, but if you're not yet fimilar with Der Onkelz they do have better albums. These would be good places to start: "Evil People Evil Music" (1985), "Bar Terrorists" (88),

"Holy Songs" (92), "Here Are the Onkelz" (95), "Viva Los Tioz" (98- availible via Amazon!) and, especially "EINS" (96).

But, like I said "Dopamin" is good. It combines a progressive Metallica sound with a power punk approach of later Ramones.

(8/5/04- Since that writing the Onkelz have just released a new album: "Adios". Judging from the title this is to be there swansong. "Adios" deserves FIVE stars! If this is their final CD they've gone out with a winner! God bless the Onkelz!)"
Awesome!

"... I love these guys ... they're some of the most versatile rockers out there ... They can do hard hitting punk with "Narben," Country-Rock with "Wieder Mal 'nen tag Verschenkt," Rock ballad with "Nichts ist für Immer Da," and some heavy stuff with "Danke Für Nichts." Not only do they do an awesome job at Heavy music, but they can mix with more mellow, subdued songs such as "Ich Bin in Dir," and they have awesome progressions such as "Nichts ist Für Die Ewigkeit." I love these guys; although "Dopamin" is quite different from their earlier stuff, it shows yet another facet of their talent. CHECK IT OUT!!!"
