CD Reviews

Nice sound
M Loreto | Sao Paulo, Brazil | 05/10/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Heard Wilkes bbq on accuradio - so nice song. It called my attention as it seemed quiet familiar. As the other reviewer comments, it has intrinsic something of the jazz messengers. But, at the same time, it has a very fresh, non nostalgic feeling. Amazing sound."
A True Message from a True Messenger
C. | Philly, Pa | 03/29/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Bobby Watson is still carrying the legacy of the Jazz Messengers. This album is a perfect example of that. He remains as bluesy as ever. The hint of gospel, the added spice of the vibes, the cooking rhythm section, and the energy and exuberance of Bobby Watson. When I listen to this it reminds me of seeing him live. When I saw him, I noticed how unselfish a musician he is. You hear that in this album very distinctively. Enjoy this album as you try to comprehend how much jazz legacy flows through his saxophone."
A great jazz record

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This recording must be destined to be a classic. The opening track Wlkes BBQ has everything- great beat, ensemble playing and solos. As a previous reviewer said Watson is just one of the ensemble- in addition there is oustanding trumpet and the vibes solo fits in perfectly as well. The sound is so upbeat. For Milt is a slower ballad and is another standout. Climbing the Stairs will find you humming along to the the catchy tune. The rest has varying moods and the playing remains flawless. The whole album is as good as it gets for listenable jazz and is a definite five stars. Bobby Watson is a great mentor!"
