CD Reviews

Gershwin has never sounded so good!

"Bobby Short has captured the essence of big city life in this marvelous CD. His passion for the music shines through in each and every song. It is almost as if he were there in your living room singing to you live. What a masterpiece this is! "Embraceable You" is by far the best i have ever heard it. I cannot recommend this highly enough! You will not be disappointed."
I'm K-RA-ZY For The Album!

"I don't own this cd. I own the original lp version, which doesn't feature "Here's A Kiss For Cinderella", "I Love To Rhyme" and an alternate version of "(I've Got) Beginner's Luck". I haven't been a Bobby Short fan that long as compared to some. I've been a fan for about 5 years, and it was his singing of Cole Porter (what else! lol) that made me a fan, but, with this Gershwin album, there's something different now for Short fans to admire. He is able to sing MORE than just classic Porter tunes, as this album proves. The thing I love about Short's recordings is he usually comes up with unknown chestnuts for us like Gershwin's "I've Got To Be There" which is done in a swinging style. And there's "That Certain Feeling", and yet again another wonderful arrangment, and "K-ra-zy For You". Berverly Peer (Bass) and Richard Sheridan (Drums) keep perfect time with Short, and despite what the Amazon heading says, this is not Short with his Orchestra! This is him back in the day when he recorded with his trio. Besides the lesser known Gershwin tunes there is also the standards songs like "Embraceable You" which Short sings additional verses as he does with "Swonderful" and "Mine", which is a song not as popular as "Embraceable..ect" or "Our Love..ect" but has enjoyed some fame. This is one of Short's best albums and it shows him at the top of his game. If you enjoyed this album get a hold of Short's other composer albums, "Bobby Short Loves Cole Porter", and "Bobby Short Is Mad About Noel Coward", both are just as good as this one. If you like Bobby Short and like to listen to great music, this is for you!"
