CD Reviews

A Fine Collection & Wonderful Tribute!
Michael Northrop | Three Rivers, Michigan | 12/17/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Bob Rowe has done an excellent job in capturing the essence of some Judy Collins gems, in addition to several self-penned tunes, and others that seem to fit together to make a very pleasurable listen! The arrangements are full scale and well done, and his vocals are very smooth and memorable. The style is very similar to Ms Collins own recordings which should make this very pallatable to many of her fans, as well as his. I am especialy touched that the proceeds from the sale of this disc are being donated to Renaissance Enterprises, to bring the arts and music concerts to those living in America's nursing homes and total care institutions--that, plus the great music are more than enough reasons to purchase this CD!My favorite cuts are, "Marieke," done in a semi-classical style, with tympany drums, strings, and fine harmonies by Rowe himself, and of course, "Send In The Clowns," which is very effective in the way it has not strayed from the original arrangements. However, Rowe, does give Judy's other "chestnuts," like, "MY FATHER," a wonderful treatment of his own with a beautiful french horn solo and haunting harmonies, and several of the originals such as, "Turn To You," and "For The First Time," are outstanding writing-- making this a worthy project, and a wonderful, entertaining album to listen to! With almost an hours worth of music (17 songs in all), this disc is deffinately worth the $17.99 price!"
