CD Reviews

Classic Progressive House
Jia | Portland, OR | 07/21/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I heard "4 Seasons, and "No Other Love" on John Digweed's Renaissance Mix Collection Vol. 2, and had to hear more. Blue Amazon have created a classic progressive house sound that perfectly combines a thumping bass line and 4/4 beat with perfectly arranged melodies and ethereal female vocals. The results are fantastic! I can't think of a low point on the whole album. Every track is great. Some songs are a little long, which can be a little trying on patience, but true fans of this style of music will understand the larger format required to flesh out these epics. Bottomline, this is an essential pick-up for fans of progressive house music."
Classic, influential, yet unheralded trance album

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Despite all of the awesome progressive/melodic trance/house music that has come out in the 6-7 years since this album was published, it still sounds fresh. I still play this CD regularly, and even work some of these tracks into my trance sets when I DJ. This is remarkable since most trance music has a half-life of 6 months. Some of the tracks are lengthy (10-12 min) but the melodic beats will swirl you into a blissful trance. The tracks "And Then the Rain Falls" and "No Other Love" were club hits when they came out in 1996ish, and have several excellent remixes not available on this CD. The other tracks, especially "Searchin'" and "The Runner" build slowly to a fever pitch with perfectly timed vocals, adding a human touch to the album. I only wish they had included the full version of "Paradise Regime", as it is a truly beautiful trance track. The 2 minutes you do get on the CD is still good, though.Overall, trance fans today will love this CD, and newcomers to the genere could listen to this and gain an appreciation for what trance really is and should be. Unfortunately, Blue Amazon has fallen off the face of the earth, even though I've never heard even so much as a mediocre track from them. If you can get your hands on this, buy it!"
Zooming and trippy, really a single-track CD

"Nice integration of vocalist samples and synthy wooshes and beats. Lot's of playing around and bending a sample, with climactic peaks and fuzzy chill-downs. I can listen to the whole thing without realizing it's done. There is not much variation in style between tracks so it may be boring for some, but if the sound clicks for you then you won't be complaining."
