CD Reviews

A Fine Album From Metal Year 1984
Christopher Fryer | United States | 11/28/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Black N Blue were a young band from Oregon that never achieved big success despite possessing very mature songwriting talents. I first discovered them when I saw the video for the classic Hold On To 18! I seem to recall that lead vocalist Jaime St. James was still wearing braces. This album contains several great songs that I never get tired of hearing. My favorites are Strong Will Rock, Hold On To 18, Wicked Bitch, One For The Money, and Chains Around Heaven (excellent!). There is also a good cover of Sweet's "Action". Their next album, Without Love, is also a good album but I started to lose interest with Nasty Nasty. As many fans probably already know, guitarist Tommy Thayer is currently playing Ace's role in Kiss. A new Black N Blue album is expected some time in the near future. If you can find this cd used grab and crank it!"
A GREAT DEBUT

"This guys emerged exactly in the middle of the 80's so called West Coast Metal Explosion, but they were from Portland, Oregon. Maybe that's why they sounded different. Too bad they didn't make it big cause no doubt they had the talents. This is the heaviest of their four albums, but still with catchy hooks all over it, includes such instant classics as "Chains around heaven", "I'm the king" and "Hold on to 18". After this album, they went to a lighter direction. If you don't own this album yet, you better hurry up. One of the best hard rock bands of all time, period."

"This CD is a treassure if you like 80's USA's Heavy Metal. In my opinion this band was influenced later (NASTY NASTY is still a great production but never like Black N' Blue) by music bussiness money promises (Kiss's Gene Simmonds take care of them) and forget how powerful band they were ............... At the end they became "one more 80's Heavy Metal Band).I've been searching this CD for many years and was almost impossible to get it. I Finally got it and keeps liking me like It was so long time ago.If you want to know how powerful they were in the beggining, please buy "Anthology Remaster" CD ............. It capures Black N' Blue soul in the raw.Other BLACK N' BLUE CD you will find great is NASTY NASTY ............ It really rocks, and sounds great ...................You won't regret spending your money on these 80's treassures, please believe me ............... I am a die hard fan of 80's Metal."
