CD Reviews

Bisk's third disc is good but not up to previous standards.
12/29/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"bisk has produced three full-length discs, two of which appear to be out of print (his debut 'time' and the followup 'strange or funny ha-ha'). he also contributed three tracks to the sub rosa sampler 'water and architecture.''ticklish matters' represents a continuation of his unique style of electronic compposition but no new bold step forward. bisk's style derives a lot from drums-n-bass, not so much in the sounds utilized (you won't find any straight up bass and snare riffs), but more in the sense of combining samples in a rhythmic and organized fashion. a typical track consists of a three or four layer foundation with various samples (most electronic, some not) overlaid on top. bisk thrives on the variation part of theme-and-variation; quite frequently he tosses in surprises or humorous distractions. ticklish matters falls directly in this schema, and it's a fine introduction to bisk. however, his first disc 'time' and the sub rosa sampler contain his most refined and poetic statements on disc. worth hunting down if you can find them."
