Billy Martin of Medeski Martin & Wood has been curating Turntable Sessions every year at various downtown NYC clubs since Exit Art's LP Show in 2001. Each show includes a featured DJ and pairs off various musical improvisers; the show concludes with the entire ensemble improvising together. Luminaries from NYC's downtown scene and Martin's friends contribute for a strange trip through turntables, laptops and microphones. 'The Turntable Sessions Volume 1' is a compilation of performances from the 2001-2002 series.
