Synopsis

Album Description
This album is a mixture of New Music (including film soundtrack 'The Fragile Skin' plus 'Spirit of Her Spirit', 'Gloat', 'Playground') and a choice of music written after the Ultravox "Ingenuity" album (Sisters and Brothers, Leap, Quiet Words, Away, Clean Stones). 'Tekapo Blue' was supposed to be part of the 'Transportation' album but it did not seem to fit on the album at the time because it is quite spikey and hyper. Billy started work on a solo album in 1983 and five tracks were written and recorded but none were released and the album didn't get finished. These tracks were 'Memories Don't Go', 'Sojourn', 'Break Down My Door', 'Riding White Horses' and 'Happy Valley'. All these tracks are here on this album and feature Steve Howe, Hazel O Connor, Toby Anderson and Russell Bell. This is the first time that the album has been available on CD and it has great artwork, with sleeve notes written by Billy. 'Keys and the Fiddle' is sure to appeal to his extensive and loyal fan base.

CD Reviews

Wow!

"What a surprise this CD was. No wonder why it was so difficult to obtain. Things worth anything generally are. This CD is incredible and well worth every effort to obtain. I had the sense that this CD was pieced together from material that was just lying around somewhere, and maybe that was the case, but my God these songs are some of the best work Billy Currie, or anyone has ever done, for that matter. This is the "Rage in Eden" of Billy's solo work. Ultravox devotees will understand exactly what that means. Here's a quick synopsis of what you have in store:
Memories Don't Go starts the CD off in a stunning, and moody fashion. Think 1940's/Poirot and you've got the picture of this elegant song. Sojourn puts a melody in your head you will not soon part with. It has one of the best melodies ever written, wait for the guitar and you'll know what I mean. Tekapo Blue is as energetic as they come and the next 2 tracks are simply lush and beautiful soundscapes. Then you get the Fragile Skin. Wow! What a frightening and beautiful piece of work. Find the organ in part3, simply incredible. And Upswing just takes off. If the CD ended right there it would be enough in itself to make this a great album, but that's just the half of it. Riding and White Horses seem like familiar songs right away. Typical great melodies, great use of percussion. Then you have Spirit of Her Spirit...wow, what a soulful piece. If you don't soar when you hear that song, there's no hope for you. Quiet Words is a gentle piano piece, echoing from some great hall. If you took the close to I Remember, the drifitng piano bit, this is where it ends up. The rest of the CD continues in the same manner, but I can't end without special mention of the song Playground...one of most beautiful pieces of music ever written. The violin just cries, literally cries on this song. A prelude to what came on Unearthed. In closing, this CD just solidifies Billy Currie as one of the most amazing composers of our (or any) time and an incredible talent. Find this CD at all cost, you will not be disappointed in any regard."

"Billy Currie CDs are like presents at Christmas...each one you open holds a new surprise. This CD is like the best Christmas you could ever imagine. This CD is packed with so many incredible songs you won't know where to start to pick your favorites. Memories Don't Go is pure 40's nostalgia...a simply beautiful song. Sojourn is lively and melodic. You will not get this one out of your head. Tekabo is like jazzy Ultravox. Sisters has an incredible piano bit near the end (typical Currie magic). Then you get The Fragile Skin...what an incredible, haunting piece of music in 4 parts. Find the organ on part 3...beautiful. And Upswing just explodes. Then on top of that you get 9 additional tracks all unique and magical in their own way. Spirit of Her Spirit just tugs at your soul. But the masterpiece of the entire CD that can't go without special mention is a little song called Playground. The viola in this piece just cries, I mean literally cries...I've never heard Currie's viola sing better. Simply unbelievable. Get this CD at all cost...it is the Rage in Eden of Currie's collection. This CD dispels any doubt that Currie is one of the greatest composers of our, or any time."
