Beautiful East Coast Guitar Blues
B. D. Tutt | London, UK. | 03/31/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Maryland Songster Bill Jackson only recorded this one album in 1962 at the age of 55, and never became part of the revivalist scene in the way that Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi John Hurt did. This recording demonstrates what a fine 12 string blues guitarist he was. Firmly in the East Coast tradition, he was melodious, ragtime influenced performer, poignant and with a nice line in quiet humour. Originally recorded by Pete Welding & released on LP, this expanded release includes unissued performances plus two monologues. The majority of the tracks are blues, but "Don't You Put Your Hands on Me" and "Going Back South" are delightful ragtime songs.Any fan of the Piedmont / Carolina blues style should get this CD."
